Georgian official: Time has come to together take a decisive step towards Europe

Time has come for Moldova and Georgia to together take the decisive step towards Europe, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament David Usupashvili said after a meeting with President Nicolae Timofti, IPN has learned from the presidential press service.

David Usupashvili pleaded for strengthening the cooperation between the two countries within the Eastern Partnership so that both of the states sign the Association Agreement with the EU in the near future. He approved of the progress made by the Moldovan authorities in doing reforms, saying that Georgia wants to learn from Moldova’s experience in modernizing its institutions.

Nicolae Timofti said the traditional relations of friendship between the two countries and the support provided by the western partners will facilitate the common European integration course of Moldova and Georgia. “There is no competition between our states within the Eastern Partnership. There is only friendly cooperation for the benefit of both of the peoples, which share the values of the western civilization,” he stated.

Nicolae Timofti and David Usupashvili expressed their concern about the situation in Ukraine. The two officials said they are against the exertion of pressure in the interstate relations and pleaded for a civilized dialogue with Russia, based on international law.
