Over 65 thousand moldovans still have passports that will become void on september 1

More than 65 thousand residents of Moldova still hold old Soviet passports that will become null and void on this upcoming September 1.

According to the state-run Registru center for informational resources, last half a year nearly 130 thousand citizens have changed their old passports for new ones.

The exchange process became really brisk after the governmental Resolution of last March, according to which the issuing of up-to-date Buletins de Identitate [domestic identity cards] instead of the USSR passports, including to the residents of Transnistria, shall be free of charge for the people – at the Moldovan state’s expense.

For this, the Government has allotted 20 million lei from its funds.
