Reconstruction of “Assumption of the Virgin” Church in Causeni stagnates

Even if the authorities announced the launch of the works to restore the Causeni Church “Assumption of the Virgin”, the reconstruction hasn’t yet started. Contacted by IPN, head of the press service of the Ministry of Culture Ala Paslariuc said that several million euros is needed to restore the historical monument, but the state does not have this money.

The project to reconstruct the church was designed together with a team of Italian specialists. The reconstruction will last for several years. Earlier, Deputy Minister of Culture Gheorghe Postica told IPN that for he first time in the last few years, 1 million lei was allocated from the state budget for restoring and conserving the church.

The Causeni Church “Assumption of the Virgin” dates from the 16th century, but the exact year when it was built is not known. Last year, the church was included in the World Monuments Fund.
