Money guarantee requested selectively when crossing Ukrainian border

The measure introduced recently by the Ukrainian authorities requiring foreigners to produce a proof of funds when entering Ukraine is applied selectively. Ukrainian diplomats say the requirement has not been intended as a measure to restrict freedom of movement but rather as a measure to prevent cross-border offenses.

The issue was discussed at a routine round of Moldo-Ukrainian consultations on consular matters, IPN learned from a press release of the the Moldovan MFA. The parties reiterated their readiness to cooperate closely in order to modernize and adapt the instruments and mechanisms of protecting the rights and interests of citizens in the context of an intensified mobility at regional and European level.

Foreigners crossing the Ukrainian border, including Moldovan citizens, are required to present a proof of means of subsistence to the amount of 4,060 Ukrainian hryvnias (€337) for a period of five days.
